TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Research students from any social science background, coming from universities, research institutions, government departments and Non-Governmental Organisations.
METHODOLOGY
Intercative class-room sessions, lectures and demonstrations by experts from the feild, exercises, assignments, case studies, preparation and testing questionnaire, interview schedule/guide, feild visits, conductiong pilot studies, report writing and presentation of research findings in small groups.

Module 1: Social Science Reserach Methodology and Basic Statistical Concepts; Theory and Techniques

Module II: Survey Research Methods: Sampling Techniques, Questionnaire & Interview Methods

Module III: Geographical Information System (GIS) and Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)

Module IV: Participatory Research Tools: Participant Observation; Paricipatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), Focused Group Discussions (FGDs), and village and Case Study Methods

Module V: Specific Sectoral Studies, Environment, Gender, Demographic Trends and Electoral Processes

Module VI (Practical): Conducting Survey, Focussed Group Discussions and Participatory Research in the Feild

Module VII (Practical): Data Analysis and Preparation and Presentation of Scientific Report
Kindly note that there is a nominal fee of Rs. 1500/- per candidate for the course. Tea/coffee/snacks, working lunch and reading materials will be provided during the course. However, travelling, board and lodging and any other incidental expenses, have to be borne by the participants themselves. Generally only 20-25 candidates will be accommodated in a batch. Admission is purely on first come first basis. Final selection of the candidates will be done by CSD. A certificate will be issued to all the successful candidates by the end of the course. Last date for receiving the application is 30th November 2008.
